DONALD BENNET APPEAL FOR NEW DERRY BURN BRIDGE

In our last edition, we publicised the NTS funding appeal towards repairing the damage caused by last August's floods to Mar Lodge Estate.

Scotways, the Scottish Rights of Way Society, have launched their own appeal in memory of Donald Bennet, a key figure in Scotways and editor of Scotways' publication Scottish Hill Tracks as well as a founding member of MCofS and author of the famous SMC Munro and Corbett guides. The funds raised are to provide a permanent replacement bridge over the Derry Burn. In addition, Scotways have very generously donated the temporary bridge currently serving at that location.

Scotways have asked us to point out the total cost for the new Donald Bennet Memorial bridge and associated pathworks is likely to be around £40,000 rather than the £15,000 that we suggested in the previous edition. The appeal is going well, more than halfway to its target, and if you wish to donate, Scotways will of course be very happy to receive your gift, either by cheque (payable to Scotways, post to them at 24 Annandale St, Edinburgh EH7 4AN), by online banking (sort code 82-44-04, account no 40485174 and please email to info@scotways.com to let them know), or you will be able to donate by card via "News - Donald Bennet Memorial Appeal" on their website (www.scotways.com).
