NORTH EAST MOUNTAIN TRUST - WINTER LECTURES 2019-2020

A Quality Future for Mountaineers and Hill-Walkers

Wednesday 11th December 2019

Simon Sawers

Hillwalker and Long-distance Hiker

Hiking Te Araroa - New Zealand's 3000 km long-distance Trail

Through mountains and bush, along coastline and rivers, through communities and farms. Predominately hiking with some paddling and cycling, this is the story of two pensioners on an epic tramp, the people they meet and the sights they see, through the equal first best country in the world!

Simon Sawers is a keen hillwalker, who's close to adding a second round of Munros to a long list of other peaks in Scotland and the wider British Isles. Not afraid of a longer stroll, he's also hiked the Cape Wrath trail, the continuous 4,000 foot'ers, the West Highland Way (six times!) and has completed no less than seven coast-coast crossings of the annual TGO Challenge. Now retired, he is a qualified Mountain Leader and supervises and assesses DofE expeditions.
