WINTER LECTURES 2002-2003

Mollie Porter: John Muir Trail and the High Sierra

Wednesday 16th October 2002

In a long career as a mountaineer Mollie has been a mountain guide and instructor, and a team leader of the Cairngorms Mountain Rescue Team for many years. Whilst in the past she has been awarded the status of "Britain's Highest Housewife" by the Woman's Own magazine, she is now a countryside ranger with the Highland Council in Badenoch and Strathspey. On the international scene Mollie has participated in mountaineering expeditions all over the world and has also worked in Antarctica.

The talk she is giving describes her adventure along the John Muir Trail which follows the north-south spine of the High Sierra (Sierra Nevada) in California. The 200-mile high-level mountaineering route crosses passes over 13,000' above sea-level and runs through stunning high mountain scenery - remote from all habitation or means of obtaining new supplies.

Venue: Belmont Club, 218 Hardgate, Aberdeen (map)

Talk starts at 8.00 pm
